It is the policy of the Church of Ireland to Safeguard both children and adults sharing in its ministry and to protect them from of forms of harm, and abuse. At St Nicholas we have adopted these policies and abide by them. If you have any concerns as to the safety of an adult or a child please report it immediately to the PSNI, Social Services or to the church's safeguarding panel.

Annual review

Everyone working with children is required go complete a review completed by the supervising leader of their group.

Log on to access NI, complete your PIN form and bring the required ID to the office.

Process for completion

The applicant should be provided with the ACCESSNI APPLICATION PACK for instruction:

The applicant will:

  1. Go to https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/services/apply-online-enhanced-check-through-registered-body

  2. Select the green button to create a nidirect account and apply for a check. If you already have a nidirect account you should use this. You may be prompted to uplift this account to a higher level – instructions will appear on screen.   3. Once you have successfully created/logged in, you will be taken to the on-line AccessNI application.

  4. Complete the Disclosure Application online using the PIN number of the Church of Ireland Safeguarding Board – 417046. Please note you must choose the ‘ENHANCED’ option when completing their account online.

  5. Include your parish name, diocese or organisation in Organisation Reference.

  6. Complete the remainder of the application.

  7. Upload the required identity documents to the AccessNI application form.

  8. Continue to complete the remaining fields on the application. When you click on confirm and proceed, the application will automatically forward to the Signatory for approval.

  9. Once completed, please write in the 10-digit AccessNI application reference number on your Pin Notification Form (Section 1 of the AccessNI Application Pack).

  10. Complete the details in Section 2 of the AccessNI Application Pack, sign and date the declaration and give it to your Authorised Signatory.

The Authorised Signatory will:

  1. Complete Section 3 of the AccessNI Application Pack.

  2. Pages 1,2 and 4 of the AccessNI Application Pack should be sent by post to The Vetting Team, Church of Ireland Safeguarding Board, Church of Ireland House, Church Avenue, Rathmines, Dublin 6, D06 CF67 or by email to accessni.admin@rcbcoi.org within 9 weeks of the application being made online or it will be rejected automatically by Access NI. A complete copy of the pack should be retained by the parish/diocese/organisation in line with GDPR.

The applicant will receive their certificate. It is their responsibility to inform their Incumbent / Parish Panel of receipt of this.

Please note this process should not take more than a couple of weeks. It is the Authorised Signatory’s responsibility to ensure that the AccessNI Application Pack has been received by the Church of Ireland Safeguarding Board. The Church of Ireland Safeguarding Board will only be in contact if there is an error in the administration and will not be chasing up AccessNI Application Packs not received.
